Talk Description
An Alternative Partnership Paradigm: Malaria Case Study
The Institute for OneWorld Health (iOWH) develops safe, effective and affordable new medicines for people with infectious diseases in the developing world. iOWH works with partners across sectors to make such medicines available. This talk will focus on the Artemisinin Project, a partnership among iOWH, UC Berkeley, Amyris and sanofi-aventis. This project’s goal is to create a complementary source of non-seasonal, high-quality and affordable artemisinin to supplement the current supply. Artemisinin is a key starting material to ACTs, recommended as first-line therapy for treatment of malaria.
