While the mission of healthcare organizations is, of course, to improve lives, there is no consensus on what specific responsibilities these organizations have. Do they have a greater obligation to their customers and society than companies in a different industry? Is there a business case for social responsibility, and if so what are the business benefits? What are the costs of not being socially responsible in health care? How does one define CSR in the varying companies that make-up the healthcare space? Are there meaningful benchmarks? What are the best practices that might be replicated?
